288 pages, 830 images, hardcover, linen
published 2018

This is the first comprehensive publication on the multifaceted work of the artist Robert Lettner, who lived in Vienna and the Lower Austrian Waldviertel. Born in Elne (F) in 1943 and raised in the Camp de Gurs internment camp, he came to Vienna via Salzburg in 1953 after the end of the war. His training as a lithographer was followed by studies in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (1964-1969). He had his first successes in the galleries Im Griechenbeisl and Nächst St. Stephan. A member of the Vienna Secession since 1970, he headed the Central Workshop for Graphic Reprographics at the University of Applied Arts (1985-2008). Robert Lettner died in Vienna in 2012.
The publication designed by Philipp Stadler, the contents of which were planned during Robert Lettner's lifetime with Harald Kraemer, now makes his oeuvre visible in its entirety for the first time. 300 illustrated plates and introductions to the four main themes of Resistance, Utopia, Landscape and Ornament are followed by a chronological documentation section with extensive information on over 130 pages. In the sense of a “contribution to the ongoing art discussion” (R. L.), the necessary material for researching the work is thus provided.
